I think that this experiment was very surprising. I think this because all the kids that were participated in the experiment were very similar in the outside world. They were all smart, physcologically sound, and physically fit. Some of them were probably friends and they most likely all knew one another. But when some were put into a situation of power and authority and others into a role of compliance or obindence everything changed. The guards felt they had to exert their power by making the "prisoners" do push up. I found that very surprising because the experiment took place in a very short period of time and the guards became almost cruel very quickly. I am also surprised about how easily the so called prisoners complied with the orders of the guards. They were not in a real prison so they did not have to go on with every thing the guards said if they really did not want to. But they did because they were told to by a person that had authority. These are some of the things i found surprising.
ReplyDeleteI found that is experiment was something that would not be done. The reason I thought it would have not happened in the location that it did is because it was at a school. The students who played the role as guards and prisoners go to the same school. They may not know each other very well, but they have seen each other in the halls. I would have never expected them to do such a thing. Going to the experiment, I found the experiment to be a good. It shows you the way they World acts, and what they would do if they had a figure, a higher figure then themselves. That is what I think about this video regarding the Stanford Prison Experiment.
