Welcome to the Arrupe Social Studies Scholars blog.  We are excited to get this school year kicked off.  Our meetings are at lunch in W209 on Day 5.  All 8th graders are encouraged to participate in this Magis project. What topics would you like to discuss or learn more about?

  1. I would like to learn more about the case on Troy Davis and maybe compare it to the case of Casey Anthony. I would also like to learn more about the death penalty.

  2. I think it would be interesting to take a session and compare policies Republicans are using in the upcoming election to gain an edge (9-9-9, flat tax, and foreign policy choices).

  3. I would like to discuss and learn more about the cold war. I already know a little bit about it but, I would like to know more about how it ended and how Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and Mageret Thatcher were envolved.

  4. In Social Studies Scholars I think it would be cool to have a debate between the parties of the government and we could represent the parties.

  5. Lately, I have been watching a movie called "Mr.Smyth goes to Washington". It is about corruption in the senate. I think it would be a cool topic to disscuss.

  6. I would also like to learn about the cold war. A second topic I would like to discuss would be Guantanamo Bay and how people were tortured and how they got there. Also is there going to be a Social Studies Scholars next trimester?

  8. In Social Studies Scholars, I think it would be interesting to talk about the Civil Rights movement. I also think it would be interesting to talk about ancient history and some of the earliest civilizations that there were.

  9. I would like to learn about European history as well. I also think that it would be interesting to learn more about the politics today and the election for president, and the individual candidates and what they would do as president.
