We talked about the recent execution of Troy Davis who was convicted of murder.  What do you think of his execution?  The justice system? The death penalty?

  1. I think that our nation has some serious issues with the death penalty. We are the last Western nation to have it. Also once it is done you cannot take it back. it might give you a short term sense of justice but as Ghandi said, "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". A much better alternative is a life's sentence in prison. Not only is it more humane but it is cheaper.

  2. I think the death of Troy Davis was not right because if you compare the case to Casey Anthony's case you can see how unconstitutional it was to kill him. For Casey Anthony's case people seemed more sure she committed homicide than for Troy Davis' case. It is not right because Troy Davis was just as guilty as her and he died for being of African heritage. The death penalty is unjust and should be stopped, and like Billy said a life sentence is more humane.

  3. In some cases the I believe that the death penalty is alright such as mass murders and assassinations of highly ranked government officials. However there are problems with the death penalty and even with prison. It can't be undone, but on the other hand if a homeless person got life in jail we might even be giving this person a better life for killing someone. In some prisons inmates receive free education while thousands of students are paying for college even though they have never committed a crime. My main problem with the death penalty is that it is different from state to state. Why should two people who committed the same crime in different states receive different punishments?

  4. I think that he should not have been executed. I do not think the death sentence is fair, because I do not think it is right to make a family feel the loss of having someone killed no matter what crime you commit. I think there should not be a death penalty, and that the most severe punishment that we can give a criminal is a life sentence. I think that the justice system is also partly to blame here, because some jurors began to question Davis' guilt, so he should not have been put to death if everyone was not surely voting guilty.
