What do you think really happened at the first Thanksgiving?  Were the Indians invited?  Was it a happy occasion?  What do you think the tone was?  Check out this link to learn more about what happened. http://www.plimoth.org/media/olc/intro.html

  1. I think it is very interesting how the classic image we see when we think about Thanksgiving has been twisted in a way and changed so that society looks upon it better.

  2. I think it is also interesting about how what we think of as Thanksgiving may not really be what we picture it being. I think it might have been competition between the pilgrims and native americans that caused it because in the letter we read in class it hinted towards it being a feast because of the native americans competing with the pilgrims.

  3. The letter we read in class pointed out that the native americans may not have been invited to the feast. I think that the native americans thought the pilgrims shooting their guns were a challenge so, they came over ready for war but they were just having a feast. I think they stayed because they did not know what else to do since they had came ready for a fight.

  4. Danny, if the native Americans had come ready for war then the pilgrims would have seen their arrows and shot at them. If the Native Americans wanted a war they would have had a war. I also think that at first there would have been anger, but a little of it was forgiven and resolved. The Indians definitely weren't invited though.

  5. I think that the first Thanksgiving may not be as happy as we make it sound. I think that it may have been a good occasion for the English, but I think that after hearing all the gunshot, the Wampanog might not have just come to town to celebrate, but rather to see who was shooting their guns and killing all the animals. i think that after realizing that the English had killed all the animals, the Wampanog might have just stayed for the few days so all the food would not go to waste.

  6. I think that the first thanksgiving was similar but not quite the same as what we traditionally believe it to have been. I do think the Native Americans were invited because it would definitely be written if they invaded the settlement. I also believe that there might not have been turkey because the letter only mentions fowl.

  7. Ian Webb, I think that the first thanksgiving was similar but not quite the same as the feast we celebrate today. I do not think that the Native americans invaded because this would have been mentioned in the letter. I also think it is likely that turkey was not actually eaten because the letter only says fowl.
