Mary Anne Lewis visits BC High
Congressional candidate Mary Anne Lewis visited BC High today to speak to high school and Arrupe students about running for office. "Heart and guts," that is what Ms. Lewis stressed that one needed to run for office. She also explained the challenges of running as an independent, and she talked about what issues are most important to her. We really appreciate her willingness to come. What did you learn from the experience?

Ms. Lewis was very interesting. I found it interesting when she talked about the struggles of being an independent. I was intrigued when she talked about the loyalty to parties and that the people in Washington were losing their civility
ReplyDeleteI think that Mrs. Lewis is very brave that she is putting out risk of being away from family because of campaigning as well as being brave by speaking in front of tons of people all of the time. I thought it was interesting that her main point in the campaign was that she wanted people to come back from unemployment. Also, i think that she is very intelligent and she is a great public speaker. I was very interested on her views of campaigning as an independent and she said that if you want to run for office, you must feel it in your gut.I had a great time listening to what she said about running for office as an independent.
ReplyDeleteIt is highly unlikely that you will ever make it as an independant. What is probably better is to run on a smaller parties' ticket, just to hopefully influence the decisions made by other candidates
ReplyDeleteI learned from hearing Mary Anne speak how difficult it is to run for office. She spoke about all the things she had to do to become a candidate and to win votes, and I was surprised by how much work it was. I found her opinion of "heart and guts" being what were necessary to run for office very interesting, and I find that I actually agree with her. She spoke about wanting to help fix unemployment, and I think that is an opinion shared by many people, and a very important issue to have a strong opinion on. I enjoyed listening to Mary Anne speak, and I think that she was a very excellent speaker with definite, strong opinions.
ReplyDeleteI thought that Mrs. Lewis was very interesting. I enjoted how she talked about all here important issues in detail. I feel that she had very strong opinions and was a great spreaker. I learned alot about the sacrifices you have to make in order to run. You spend so much time away from your family while running and often times it can can really hurt your family. This shows that she is dedicated to the people she wants to help others even if it may not help here or even hurt her. She shows great motivation and dedication. I also found out that her main point in the election was to fix unemployment I think that this is a key step in fixing the economy and that is what everyon wants to do. Lastly I feel that the most important lesson that I learned was that in order to be a candidate especially and independant one, which makes it so much more difficult, you have to listen to your hear and your gut. Do what is right.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Mary Anne Lewis had a very interesting talk, although I am about a month late. I admired her courage of standing up and saying to everyone how she struggled being away from her loving family. I agreed with many of her points, and disagreed with her talk about Cape Wind. She thought that it would be too expensive to do, and that wind power isn't great out over the sea. I disagree. This project, which is now being put in place, will provide for about one third of the energy needs of eastern Massachusetts.
